In Attendance

Jodie Harris, Joel Miller, Chrissy Felt, Clayton Grace, Shauna Alvarado, Cali Southwick

Celebrations

School Land Trust Plan for this year is finished, Joel is very happy to have it completed.
Reflections entries were submitted last week.  We had good participation.
The teacher teams are doing well, each team seems to collaborate effectively.

Area of Concern:  ELL population has grown significantly since last year so we are working to see how we can best meet their needs.

Review of Fall SCC Training information

Watched videos, which outlined the history and purpose of School Trust Lands as well as what role the School Community Council plays in school improvement and academic growth.

School’s Digital Citizenship and students safety plan

Discussed district and school wide online safety plan.  Joel will send this information out to community members.

Guiding principles: Today’s students are far more technologically advanced than students in previous generations.  As educators, it is essential that we identify best practices, instructional methodologies and tools to engage students through the use of interactive technologies.

Calendaring

Would like to hold meetings on the 3rd Thursday of every month.  Next month’s meeting will be held November 19th.

In place of one of the monthly meetings, Joel would like to possibly have SCC members come observe teacher collaborations as a “fly on the wall” to see what goes on during that collaborative time..

Questions

Chrissy brought up her concern with students not having mastered the basic math facts.  Suggested that Joel consider having a “Math fact of the Day” that he would announce during morning announcements.  It would be a focus for the whole day.  Every time a student sees Joel in the hall they could tell him the fact, each class could shout the fact loud enough for Joel to hear down in the office, etc.

Election of Board Leadership:

  • Chair- Clayton Grace motioned by Cathleen, seconded by Chrissy
  • Vice Chair- Chrissy Felt motioned by Joel, seconded Shauna
  • Secretary –Shauna Alvarado motioned by Joel, seconded by Chrissy

Review School-wide Date with School Grade:  State office of Education has reported school grades. Lehi Elementary has received a B grade, an increase from a C the previous year. This past year our overall percentage points were 54.33. Overall school points: 326 out of 600. The previous year we had 294 points out of 600. This is an increase of 32 points.

As part of discussing our increase we looked at 4th, 5th, 6th grade students ELA and Math test scores:

  • School wide average percent of change in ELA is a 3.35% increase. Our school land trust goal was 3 points.
  • School wide average percent of change in Math is a 4.0% increase. Our school land trust goal was 3 points. Specifically in Math 5th grade has the largest increase by 18%. 3rd grade had an increase of 3%, 4th showed 0% increase and 6th experience a decrease of 5%
  • Comparison of Lehi Elementary with other schools in Utah with similar demographics shows that we are the highest in growth points in Math!
  • School wide average percentage of change for Science was a 1.67% increase. This is a focus point for goal setting this year.
  • DRA Data: Overall the school experienced growth between the 13-14 school year and the 14-15 school year.

Report of Trustland Fund SIP:  As part of Lehi Elementary’s weekly collaboration we look at data to compare teachers scores and study what it is that higher scoring teachers are doing in order to be more effective. We are also looking to the highest scoring schools within our band of schools. We are planning to meet with teams of from those schools who are scoring high to learn what it is that they are doing to be effective.

Programs that are currently in place to promote student growth include flextime and double dosing to target those students who need more instruction on specific standards. We also have extra curricular activities such as Gifted and Talented, choir, chime choir and ball room. These all work together to create an engaging environment for our students.

Joel will be meeting with team leaders from each grade level to discuss grade level goals and what each team plans to do to meet them. Joel will be presenting this information to the SCC during the next meeting.

Calendaring:  A meeting for SCC chairs and principals is Monday, September 21st. Joel and Clayton will be attending.

Voting on November 202014  minutes:  A motion was made by Susan Archibald and seconded by Liz Ash to approve last meetings minutes.

Good Things:

  • Sage Formative Testing-This is a free test that can help the teachers and students prepare for the Sage Test.  Teachers can pull questions to make own assessments for students to practice on.  This comes through the Sage Portal so every teacher has access to it.
  • Sage Writing Test-Changes were made so less time will be involved in this portion of the test than last year.
  • Sage Testing Window-Start about the last week of April and go into May by about 2 weeks.
  • Robotics class started last week (Jan. 13).
  • Gifted and Talented Program moving along.
  • Eight cordless microphones and a spotlight were purchased to upgrade our Drama Club.
  • Lehi Elementary will reapply for the Beverly Taylor Sorensen Grant this spring.  This grant, along with Trust land Funds helps support our fine art program.
  • Double Dosing-Teachers will be turning in data soon to show progress and growth.  This will also include attendance data.
  • Boundary issue-This has not been approved by the board of education yet.  The suggested change moves our boundary from State Street to I-15.  If approved, we would add students from Sego Lily and Eagle Crest.
  • Feb. 4th –Science Fair

Attending our meeting was a Community Council Rep. (Kimberly Kosorok) for our area.  She will take any issues or concerns we may have back to the District Community Council Meeting.

Review of Rules of Order and Procedure:   Lance proposed an addition to the rules of Order and Procedure.

  • Meetings are regularly scheduled, however interim meetings may be called by the request and support of two Community Council Members. One week notice is still required.
  • In extreme circumstances, a motion and second can be made electronically (email, etc.) or by phone among Council Members.  A majority must approve, and the motion is given preliminary approval until the next Community Council meeting (whether a regularly scheduled meeting, or an interim meeting).

Amy moved that we approve the motion, and Kathleen seconded.  It was unanimously approved.

Report on the use of Trust Land Funds

Year-to-date budget report-  We are on track for use of funds.  Double Dosing does not get paid out until the end of the year.

Progress of Plan-At the next meeting we will review progress of plan in more detail.  On Feb. 10th we will work on the layout of the School Improvement Plan.

Collaboration Meeting Observation:  On Feb. 9th the School Community Council will take the opportunity to observe the collaboration meetings of the teachers and see how this time is used to help students.  Meet in council room at 2:15pm.
We will meet on Feb. 10 to report on observations and start School Improvement Plan.

Feedback from parents:  Kindergarten registration coming up.  Discussed need to get word out to parents early about registration.

March 19th Other meetings may be called as needed.  All meetings are held at 3:40 pm in the school conference room.
